A Tale of Survival
In 2006, Craig Richard gained international attention after surviving a harrowing 18-hour self-rescue following a rock climbing accident. Climbing in the Black Canyon of western Colorado, he was training for the world’s most famous and challenging rock wall, El Capitan in Yosemite California.
During the climb, Craig suffered a devastating fall that shattered his right leg. Stranded deep in the canyon with no chance for help, he crawled for 3 miles through the night on his broken leg, enduring 18 hours of relentless struggle.
Undaunted by the accident, Craig resumed climbing with a cast on his leg. Exactly one year after the fall, he journeyed to Yosemite where after 4 days and 3 nights, he reached the 3,000-foot summit of El Capitan, fulfilling his life-long dream.
Craig's incredible story was featured on the Travel Channel’s TV show, “Got Home Alive”, where he portrayed himself in a reenactment of the ordeal. Today, Craig shares his inspiring journey of resilience and survival in presentations around the world.
